As a new NYC resident, I’m very excited to be exploring and finding new Makers to share. I stumbled upon Scocha at the flagship store in Williamsburg just last weekend. The delicate but strong and colorful designs got me thinking heart shaped emojis everywhere.
Welcome to Province of Canada, your new favorite leisurewear supplier. Of course, I was instantly won over by the name. Any time I can show my patriotism I’m game. But usually this type of Canadian patriotic styling comes in red and well, red is really not my color so you can imagine my excitement. After a quick peruse of their site, I knew this was more than just patriotism. Their line is something I’d actually want to wear, correction, live in. And after now having my crew neck sweatshirt for a few weeks I can confidently confirm that I have worn it almost everyday. It’s perfect for a cozy night in or paired with skinnies and heels for a casual day look. The simple branding is versatile and modern and I love that it’s a classic throwback to the 90’s and the years of CK Calvin Cline, Club Monaco and GAP sweatshirts that we all used to live in.
I have a feeling this is only the beginning for Province of Canada. They’ve hit the scene with a great first collection but the leisurewear and accessory possibilities are endless. From a branding and photography angle they’ve hit the nail on the head and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next. They have a strong identity and voice that feels very modern Canadian, simple and unassuming yet beautiful and inviting. Trust me, one look at their Instagram feed and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Check out their site here and make sure to the play the Canadian Nickname Game. It’s just the kind of humor that makes me miss home and good for a harmless laugh. Plus when I got my package in the mail, it came with a handwritten note from “The Team”. Oh, and did I mention all the product is made in Canada. Seriously, I’m in love with everything about this company and not just because it’s Canadian… I swear!

Yet another colab for the books – Mara Hoffman famed designer of colorful geometric multi-prints that take form in effortless maxi cutout dresses and bathing suits has just launched her first ever home goods line with non other than Anthropologie. I mean seriously though, I’m drooling over everything. Never mind the complete bed sets, which I wish I had two beds to clothe in, but the pillows are two die for. I’m definitely adding the evil eye pillow to my collection, which is going to make it terribly hard to leave my shopping cart empty of the evil eye rug. And I can only image what the pyramid candle smells like. That piece is definitely worth stocking up on for future gifts. Oh, and let’s not forget about the totally affordable notebooks. I can’t think of a better place to house poetic love notes from Summer 2014. Or at least a few numbers and scribbles by the pool. In any case, be forewarned; you’re going to want it all. And everything’s pretty much already on back order so get after it!
I’m gonna let you in on a little secret… Betsy & Iya. They are one of my favorite jewelry designers from right here in Portland and they have a new collection, Voyage. Pulling inspiration from three destinations, Portland, Scandinavia and Mexico, Voyage is strong, geometric and architectural; everything we’ve come to expect from their jewelry. But it’s also something else, colorful. The three destinations each have a color pallet that lends its self to the jewelry, adding just the right pop to give each piece a truly unique personality. I don’t have much color in my everyday jewelry so I can’t wait to pop down and pick a few pieces up this weekend. Check out the lookbook below and some key pieces from the collection.
Two friends who wanted to make jewelry and run their own schedules formed Betsy & Iya in 2008. They now have a fantastic little shop in NW Portland where they not only make the jewelry right there in the back they also carry other lifestyle goods. It’s pretty much a one-stop shop for any gifting needs, including that little reward for you. I hear there’s an expansion on the way and I couldn’t be happier! I wish these two all the luck in the world. I can’t go a day without someone commenting on my rings and I have Betsy & Iya to thank for that.

Lindsey Wixson is at the forefront of ManiaMania’s Fall Winter 2014 Look book and I’m in love. Channeling Stevie Nicks, nothing can come between me and Wixson’s lower lip. My favorite decade coupled with one of my favorite models adorned in a gorgeous ManiaMania precious stones and metals. The collection “Immortalia”, hand made in New York City, is inspired by witchcraft and Wixon’s bewitching outer-wordly looks were her casting characteristics. I mean really, the 70’s and witchcraft, what could be better?!

Established in 2009 and sparking an immediate cult following Maniamania continues to oooh and ahhh with each collection. The latest, Babylon Collection, stays true to their feminine but bold aesthetic with massive stones and silver and brass metals. Seriously though, this collection looks straight from the set of Game of Thrones. I swear any of these pieces would look right at home adorned on Khaleesi, making them a perfect for any modern, strong woman, who knows just what she wants and how to get it. The Theda Choker and Vixen Stacked Ring are among personal favorites and there is no denying we’ll be seeing plenty of fashionistas adorned all over the web very soon. Shop the collection here.
