3 Days in Mykonos
Mykonos is one of the most iconic Greek islands. It’s located in the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea and has a ton of history, with beautiful 16th century windmills and a gorgeous old town with little winding alleys, white walls and brightly painted shutters. If you’re looking for beach club parties, Mykonos is definitely an Island you should add to your itinerary. As we were traveling in October, which is the very tail end of the season, a lot of the beach clubs had already closed. However, we did manage to find some sunset live music and nighttime DJ set fun. Surprising, I know!
While beautiful, the reality of Mykonos is the absurd amount of cruise ship passengers that show up each day to wander the cute streets and watch the sunset over the iconic windmills. Little Venice, a beautiful portion of old town with restaurants that sit right up against the sea is just below the windmills and gets particularly crowded at sunset. While it’s beautiful and a perfect spot to enjoy a pre-dinner shot of ouzo over ice it’s almost not worth it. For even the most experienced traveler it is overwhelming and adds a certain amount of angst to what would preferably be chill island experience.
We’re glad we went and saw what Mykonos was all about and if it’s on your list, you should too. Just make sure you know what you’re signing up for. Be ready for the beach club vibes and touristy chaos.
